No blankets for passengers on train for last 30 min journey:IRCTC

 Railways has been working actively to improve its services in order to make passengers experience comfortable. It has been a little diffucult because of all the theft in trains. Petty passengers have stolen toilet mugs, ceiling fans, bed linens, pillows, and even pillow covers from the trains.

A data released in October last year by the Western Railway about the number of items sold revealed that just in 2017, passengers riding the long-distance trains stole 1.95 lakh towels, 81,736 bed-sheets, 55,573 pillow covers, 5,038 pillows, and 7,043 blankets. Apart from that, 200 toilet mugs, nearly 1,000 taps, and over 300 flush pipes were also stolen are also a part of the list of items stolen from the Railways.

The data also revealed that between April to September 2018, around 79,350 hand towel, 27,545 bedsheets, 21,050, pillow covers, 2,150 pillows, and 2,065 blankets were stolen. The total worth of these stolen items was around Rs 62 lakhs.

In order to deal with this situation, minister of state for Railways, Rajen Gohain recently informed in Lok Sabha that coach attendants have now been asked to collect the bedrolls from passengers 30 minutes before they reach their destination, reported Zee business. It may be noted that in case the linen items are missing or are not returned, the cost is covered either by the concerned staff or the linen contractors.

Worth mentioning here is that unruly and rowdy passengers stole headphones from Tejas Express and even damaged the newly installed LEDs. Railways have been constantly receiving complaints regarding thefts of bedrolls by passengers of even premium trains. The new rule is expected to tackle the problem.
