BJP more dangerous than corona, creates communal divide:Nusrat Jahan
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP and Bengali actress Nusrat Jahan’s corona remark against the Bharatiya Janata Party has stoked controversy. The TMC Lok Sabha MP also targetted the saffron party by accusing it of creating enmity between Hindus and Muslims for political gains.
Addressing an election rally in Muslim-dominated Deganga in North 24 Parganas district, Jahan said that BJP was more dangerous than the COVID-19 and is trying to divide the people of Bengal into religious lines. She also alleged that the BJP doesn’t understand the Bengali culture and humanity.
Jahan’s coronavirus remark against the BJP didn’t go down well with saffron party’s social media head Amit Malviya, who targetted West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and accused her of appeasement politics.
“In WB, the worst kind of vaccine politics is unfolding. First, Siddiqulla Chowdhury, a sitting minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, holds up trucks carrying vaccines. Now a TMC MP, campaigning in Muslim majority Deganga, likens BJP to Corona. But Pishi (aunt) is silent. Why? Appeasement?” Malviya tweeted.
Malviya’s tirade against Bengal minister Siddiqulla Chowdhury came after reports emerged that a health department van carrying vaccines from Kolkata to Bankura got stuck in a traffic jam reportedly due to a blockade led by Chowdhury.
Chowdhury had claimed innocence saying that the protest was announced earlier and he was not informed by the police of the van’s movement.
As West Bengal Assembly elections 2021 are expected to be held in April-May, the TMC and the BJP leaders have been launching a vociferous attack on each other. It may be noted that the main contest in this Assembly polls will be between the ruling TMC and the resurgent BJP.
Left and Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance and decided to contest the upcoming Bengal polls together.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that Banerjee should join his party and fight against BJP in the West Bengal Assembly election.
