Registrations for Covid vaccination for 18+ people from April 28; no walk-ins allowed
New Delhi: The government on Thursday clarified amid contradictory media reports that the registrations for ‘liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of Covid-19 vaccination’ will start from April 28 (Wednesday) onwards. Earlier, several media reports quoted that registrations will start from April 24 for the phases 3 vaccination drive starting May 1.
On MyGovIndia Twitter account, the Central government said that no walk-ins will be allowed for vaccination of people between the age of 18 and 45 years. Self-registrations will have to be done on CoWIN website or Aarogya Setu app.
“Don’t get misguided by rumours/news stating that registration for vaccination of 18+ citizens to start from 24th April 2021! The registrations will start on the #CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App from 28th April 2021 onwards. Stay informed, stay safe! #IndiaFightsCorona,” the tweet said.
Earlier, it was quoted in media reports that the registrations would begin on April 24. RS Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority (NHA), was quoted as saying in multiple media reports that vaccine registrations for those above 18 will start in the next 48 hours.
While India has been administering two vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin – from January 16 when the vaccination drive started in the country, Russia’s Sputnik V has also been approved by the Indian drug regulator and the same is likely to be available soon.
Sharma was further quoted as saying that in the next phase as well starting May 1, the government will monitor any case of Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI).
The government had announced on Monday that vaccinations for all persons above 18 will begin from May 1. Further, states and private hospitals have been allowed to procure vaccines directly from the manufacturers.
