Pak terrorist arrested from Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar; AK-47 rifle, grenade recovered
New Delhi: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a Pakistani terror suspect in the Laxmi Nagar area of national capital.
The man, identified as Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of Narowal in Pakistan’s Punjab province, was held from Ramesh Park of east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on October 8.
He has been booked under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Act, Arms Act, and other provisions.
An AK-47 assault rifle and hand grenade among other things have been recovered from his possession. “One AK-47 assault rifle with one extra magazine and 60 rounds, one hand grenade, two sophisticated pistols with 50 rounds have been seized,” ANI reported.
The terror suspect was living as an Indian national in east Delhi’s Shastri Nagar by using a fake identity card with the name Ali Ahmad Noori.
“A terrorist, Pak national, caught by #DelhiPolice #SpecialCell @CellDelhi from Laxmi Nagar area of Delhi, staying on fake identity on forged documents, as we beefed up anti-terror alert and action across city in current festive season. Major terror plan foiled. Further probe on,” the Delhi Police said in a tweet.
The man has been living in Delhi for over 15 years and has also managed to buy properties in central and east Delhi, police sources said.
He was allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in the national capital.
The terror suspect is being interrogated and a search has also been conducted at his present address, according to police.
Last month, the Delhi Police Special Cell had busted a Pakistan-organised terror module and arrested six terror suspects, including two Pakistan-ISI trained terrorists.
The suspects were allegedly planning to carry out several explosions in various parts of the country, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, during the festival season.
