New Delhi: Automaker Bajaj gears up again to tap scooter market with the launch of Chetak Electric. Once famous with the tagline Hamara Bajaj company remain the leader in scooter market before shutting down its production. Just in case you are planning to bring one of these babies home save that particular piece of information, here’s everything you need to know about the newest EV in town.
While the new scooter does borrow a handful of design cues from the old chetak, there’s a world of modern styling cues as well. The new Chetak scooter gets a horseshoe-shaped LED head light cluster, broad front apron, shapely side panels, LED tail lights, sequential scrolling LED blinkers, and alloy wheels at either end.
Chetak’s features are also quite contemporary; it comes equipped with a coloured TFT screen for the instrument panel, smartphone connectivity, etc. The instrument panel, by the way, is operated via feather-touch switchgear on the handlebar. Oh and as is norm now — the automaker is also offering a dedicated Bajaj Chetak mobile app that provies access to vital information, including battery range, ride history, and more.
Though the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter’s specs haven’t been revealed, we do know it will get a 4 kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
Now, Bajaj Chetak’s range; the company claims the scooter is capable of 85 km/charge in Sport mode and a max of 95 km/charge in Eco mode.
In order to ensure the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter’s price remains competitive, the two-wheeler has decided against equipping it with provisions for DC fast-charging. So, the new Chetak will get only an in-built charger, which, when used with a 5-ampere home power outlet, will allow it to be charged to 100 per cent in five hours.
You know how the original Chetak was a household name? Yeah, so Bajaj Auto will be looking to repeat that success — at least to some degree. This is why we believe the electric scooter’s price will be somewhere around ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bajaj will initially limit the availability of the new Chetak to just Pune. But don’t fret yet, because the company has already assured that it fully intends to expand the scooter’s availability to other cities across India as well.
