Auto Expo 2020: Maruti Suzuki showcases Jimny SUV

Greator Noida: Maruti Suzuki has showcased Jimny at the ongoing Greater Noida Auto Expo 2020. In case you don’t know, Jimny is a hardcore SUV by Suzuki and is regarded as one of the most capable budget-friendly off-roading vehicles. In fact, there were rumors that Maruti Suzuki could launch Jimny in India when the the company decided to pull the plug on the Gypsy in the wake of safety norms. This news gained weight from the fact that Gypsy was based on Jimny. But let’s not get our hopes high as Maruti Suzuki is unlikely to launch the Jimny in India. But that shouldn’t stop us from talking about it.

Jimny likes a true-blue off-roader with its boxy silhouette and retro styling. It sports round headlamps (that are now LED units) which flank a five-slat grille, chunky bumper, clam-shell bonnet, front skid plate, and tailgate-mounted spare wheels. It’s off-roading capabilities are highlighted by flared wheel arches, raised ground clearance, and side cladding.Even the interior layout is very functional which, according to the company, doesn’t distract the drivers from focusing on the terrain. However, it does get some basic provisions like a semi-digital instrument panel with an MID (multi-information display), a large touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC, toggle switches. Jimny is available in international markets with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 100.5 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available in combination with a five-speed manual transmission and an optional four-speed automatic gearbox. To take on the challenging terrains, Jimny gets three-link rigid axle suspensions with coil springs and 4WD system with a low-range transfer gear. Safety features on this SUV include hill hold control, hill descent control, brake assist system, lane departure warning system, airbags, ABS, etc.
