Congress assures ‘40% quota in 20 lakh new jobs post 2022 elections’

Lucknow: With an eye on the 2022 Assembly elections, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday announced a manifesto, wherein women in Uttar Pradesh will be provided 40 per cent of the 20 lakh new employment vacancies the party plans to generate in the state after next year’s polls.

Releasing a six-point manifesto titled ‘Shakti Vidhan’, she said that if the Congress comes to power, the party will also ensure that 50 per cent of all ration shops in UP are managed by women.

The 6-S mentioned in the manifesto are – ‘swabhiman’ (self-respect), ‘swawlamban’ (self-sufficiency), ‘shiksha’ (education), ‘samman’ (respect), ‘suraksha’ (security) and ‘sehat’ (health).

Gandhi stressed that the allotment of jobs to women as per the promise will be done in accordance with the existing provisions of reservation.

“Within the state labour ministry, there will also be a government department to ensure humane working conditions of domestic workers. Besides these, 40 per cent work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) will also be reserved and prioritised for women,” Priyanka Gandhi said highlighting the points from the manifesto ‘Shakti Vidhan’, according to news agency PTI.
