New Delhi: As the cases of Covid 19 increasing Delhi government’s COVID-19 committee on Saturday suggested that the ongoing lockdown may have to be extended beyond May 3. The committee said that the epidemic curve is expected to go into a downward spiral soon.Speaking about the coronavirus situation, Delhi government’s COVID-19 committee chairman Dr SK Sarin said, “India is still on the ascending limb of the epidemic curve and so, to ease the restrictions will mean the cases will multiply uncontrollably. And, Delhi has a large number of containment zones, so it will be wise to extend lockdown.
Explaining the method to decide May 16 as the end date, Dr Sarin explained that Delhi recorded its first COVID-19 case on March 3 and mathematical modelling of the pandemic from China suggested that it takes nearly 10 weeks for the epidemic curve to decline.
