Honour Killing: 17-year-old girl gunned down by father in Budaun
Budaun: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was gunned down by her father in a village in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours of Monday, reportedly after she tried to elope with her 21-year-old boyfriend.
The deceased teenager, a school dropout, was a resident of Paroli village within the jurisdiction of Bilsi police station in Budaun. She was having an affair with a 21-year-old local youth for the last two years. The two wanted tie the knot. When the girl told her father, a farmer, about it, he did not approve of her alliance with the youth and prevented her from stepping out of the house. The teen’s mother did not oppose the match, but she failed to persuade her husband.
Forced to stay in the house for more than a month, the teenager decided to elope with her lover. Her father caught her fleeing from the house around 4 am on Monday. He asked her not to leave but she refused to listen to him. Following this, he allegedly shot her dead with a country-made gun. The man was about to flee, but his wife informed the cops, leading to him getting arrested.
“He has been arrested and sent to jail after his wife’s complaint. In fact, she was a witness to the crime. WE have also recorded the statement of neighbours,” the report quoted Bilsi CO Anirudha Singh as saying.
Based on the wife’s complaint, the police have charged the accused for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Police recovered the country-made pistol used in the crime and invoked relevant charges under the Arms Act against the accused. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
