Mamata Banerjee announces Rs 2 lakh compensation for kin of 29 patients

Kolkata:  Chief Minister  of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced Rs 2 Lakh compensation for each of the families of those who lost their lives due to the disruptions of health services following strike by junior doctors.

The move came a day after talks between the agitating junior doctors and the state government failed after the Mamata Banerjee-led administration refused to allow a live streaming of the meeting scheduled at Nabanna, the state secretariat.

While the chief minister waited for over two hours at Nabanna Sabhaghar, the junior doctors waited just outside the gate demanding live streaming of the meeting which was denied by the authorities.

On Friday, Banerjee took to X and wrote, “It is sad and unfortunate that we have lost 29 precious lives due to disruption in health services because of long drawn cease work by junior doctors.”

“In order to extend a helping hand to the bereaved families, State Government announces a token financial relief of Rs. 2 lakh to family members of each deceased person…” she added.
