PM Modi to conduct aerial survey of Cyclone Amphan-hit areas in Bengal and Odisha


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal and Odisha on Friday to conduct an aerial survey of the ground situation after the cyclone Amphan wreaked havoc in both the states and claimed lives of more than 72 people.

The announcement came hours after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had asked PM Modi to visit the state and inspect the damage caused by the cyclonic storm yesterday. Mamata Banerjee had also said that the damage caused by Amphan was in the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore.She also announced a compensation of Rs 2.5 Lakh to the families of those who died in cyclone Amphan.

“I have never seen such a disaster before. I will ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state and see the situation,” she said, as reported by news agency ANI.

“So far as per the reports we have received, 72 people have died in the state due to Cyclone Amphan. Two districts – North and South 24 Parganas are completely devastated. We have to rebuild those districts from scratch. I would urge the central government to extend all help to the state,” she added.
