TN: Nation losts CDS Bipin Rawat alongwith wife and 12 others in IAF chopper crash


New Delhi: Chief Defence of Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat succumbed to injuries when a Mi-17V5 chopper carrying him and his wife Madhulika Rawat crashed in Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.

The accident that happened at the Nanjappanchathiram area amid heavy mist claimed at least 13 lives. The Indian Air Force announced the demise of CDS General Bipin Rawat along with 12 others in a chopper crash.

“With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,” the Indian Air Force said in a statement. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed anguish over the demise of General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others in the IAF chopper crash.

Group Captain Varun Singh, Directing Staff at DSSC is currently under treatment at Military Hospital, Wellington.
